Probably on the same scale of reliability as the insights of the old guys in upstate NY.

Graham Carmichael--a cheerful Scotsman who was partial to a drink or 10
Yep, he was a character. Worked with him at a convention once. he described the situation once as "quiet as a contribution box", made me smile. Talked about his Glasgow upbringing. "they would steal your front door and sell it you round the back".

Atlantis, I don't know what I'm going to do with it but I now seem to have the whole 2024 RC program warts, tumours and all in my computer. Thanks mate, a big sticky bun to you with your coffee this morning.
The question is, will its toxicity melt my hard disc and gum up my key board. Only time will tell.

Do JWs Get Excited About WT Publications Any More?
by NotFormer inmemory from long ago: my old mate from high school lived next door to a jw and was often "treated" to the latest jw literature.
when the "you can live forever in paradise on earth"* book came out, this neighbour waxed lyrical about how good this book was and how powerful the message was.
he acted really keen about it, like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

The last time I got excited about a WT publication was in 1998. I bought a case of "Truth" books at "pioneer rate" at an assembly when they were released. They were like gold dust then, you could flog them like hot pies. Never had better placements or more money in my pocket as a pio. You could start studies like shelling peas. It almost seemed worthwhile at that time..
Then came 1975.

Here is a question. Does anything in the JW lexicon warrant a celebration like a branch dedication? Is it the biggest thing in the that happens? It's a huge party for the hierarchy, crumbs from the table left for the R&F. Construction, real estate is th centre of the JW universe.. Just a nod to the preaching work but we know where the real value and nucleus of this organisation is don't we?

Having seen (or been aware) of these events before, I think they reveal a lot. Te last big one in the UK was such a feast it seemed like a Roman orgy. They had if memory serves, a whole animal, say a cow, stuffed with a sheep, stuffed with a pig, stuffed with a turkey etc. etc. Please don't hold me to the detail but you get the picture.
The celebrations are massively over the top and demonstrate the hierarchical setup of the organisation. The R&F are to be subjected to a series of talks recorded for them and won't even witness any of the "A" listers ceremonials and jollities. The "B" listers, those that volunteered their time in some way are invited to ticket only TV events "yawn" in assembly halls around the country. They will be delighted by this exclusive privilege.
The rest will be subjected to a boring 3 hour ordeal and wonder why they turned up at all.
It is the definition of privileged hierarchy and secret excess, all at the expense of the R&F meekly nodding along.

Oh my Lord! I remember the book being released with the two couples on the stage discussing JW history. John and Eunice as with Tom and Lois. As a young child without filters I was fascinated by these "historical" insights.
I would love to read the revision of history again with a more critical and honest perspective. I was just blotting paper then for an interesting story.

This Week's BS Study. Shylock?
by Slidin Fast inlast night the subject of simony reared its head.
there was a picture (artists impression) of the event resembling a bunch of clean-cut americans in fancy dress busy performing or observing miracles.
in the foreground offering a bribe to join in is simon.
